Bringing it back
Hi all - I've been experiencing a few different online gatherings lately which have given me experiences to wonder about how expert facilitators would work with situations in which a participant takes the group discussion on a ride and away from the goal of the exercise/discussion (e.g. going into detailed stories, or into a long/circular share, or into strong emotions that seem to take over the participant)?
Thanks 🙂
Hi Miriam, I would suggest establishing community agreements for your training or meeting. Address issues of going off topic or taking up too much airspace and say that if that happens, you, as the facilitator, will delicately intervene and bring the focus back to the question or topic at hand. It's very difficult to intervene if you haven't set up ahead of time that you'll be doing so. I hope this is helpful. Peggy Taylor/PYE Creative Director
