Live Forum: 3rd Thursday | Facilitating Connection Online
Each online event is focused on a specific aspect of Creative Community facilitation, and led by one of Partners for Youth Empowerment’s lead facilitators. The forums are FREE and lots of FUN. Anyone who works with groups of youth or adults, or wants to increase their impact and creativity, will benefit.
Live Forums are an important part of our online network connecting thousands of facilitators, youth workers, workshop leaders, and educators around the world. Held on the third Thursday of every month, they provide a convenient but powerful way to gather and share knowledge and experience in a way that bridges distance.
TOPIC: FACILITATING CONNECTION ONLINE
Explore how to create a feeling of connection and how to invite imagination and creativity using online conferencing platforms like Zoom. Join us live to discuss your experiences and to participate in a facilitation lab where we will test out some techniques and reflect together!
Past forums have been held as a live Facebook Group discussions (discussion archive). This month’s live forum will be held on a video conferencing platform called Zoom. Instructions for installing Zoom are below. We are excited and grateful for your help in trying this new format out with us!
At the beginning of the session, the facilitator will welcome each participant to the room and start off with a brief check-in and a set of goals and agreements that everyone is welcome to contribute to. Although you are welcome to come and go from this session as your schedule allows, we encourage you to be on time and stay for the duration if at all possible. This will help to build a safe place for all in the session.
We hope to see you there!
8am Seattle | 11am Toronto | 2pm Rio de Janeiro | 4pm London | 6pm Cape Town | 9:30pm Bangalore
On Zoom, you choose your level of participation. You can share your video, audio, and/or text during the session. Or, if you prefer to just listen during the conference, that is fine as well. It is your choice.
To maintain participant privacy and to create a safe space for this session, it will NOT be recorded; however, for those that choose to, we may attempt to record a short, shared activity at the end to demonstrate the power of the online conferencing platform for supporting connection and building community.
VIDEO: When you enter the room, your video will be on; you can turn it off at any time.
AUDIO: All participants will be ‘MUTED’ until given permission by the facilitator. You can help by making sure Zoom is on “MUTE” (there is a button on the bottom left of the screen). And if you have excessive noise in your environment, please ‘MUTE’ unless you are talking.
CHAT: You can submit questions and comments to the group or directly to the facilitator through the chat feature. Click “CHAT” and a chat box will appear on the left. Here you can view and make comments and ask questions.
Click “PARTICIPANTS” for interactivity
“RAISE HAND” to get the attention of the facilitator
“YES” and “NO” to answer facilitator questions

“As a freelance facilitator I’ve longed for the opportunity to reflect with others. 3rd Thursdays connect me with people from all over the world doing similar work. They provide the space to reflect, investigate, and question my practice which supports me to be better at what I do.”
Partners for Youth Empowerment Senior Trainer, London, UK
“3rd Thursday helps me feel connected to other social artists and deepen my practice. They understand me in a way that no one else does! I get to be celebrated and supported, and I think through the biggest issues in my work.”
Creative Facilitator, Kingston ON, Canada
“The Live Forum gives me the chance to reflect on my facilitation work with a community of other practitioners. To be able to work through successes and failures, through case studies and examples with others, has allowed me to continue learning and growing in my facilitation."
